New Classrooms and Facilities for Kikori Primary School Relocation Site

The relocation of Kikori Primary School in Gulf Province is progressing well with a focus on delivering modern educational facilities for Kikori district.

Funded through the Gas Resources Pipeline through Community Investment program, the project involves moving the school to a new 4.45-hectare site near the Kikori airstrip. This initiative is part of the airstrip upgrade program.

The new Kikori Primary School will see the construction of a comprehensive new school complex designed to significantly enhance the learning environment. MRDC project engineer Heinrich Atiyafa highlighted the key facilities will include, nine standard classrooms, a prominent four-storey double classroom building, an administration building, twelve teachers’ houses, mess hall and new ablution blocks

Atiyafa reported that the project is at earthworks phase, preparing the ground for construction. This stage will be followed by the laying of foundations for the various buildings, leading to the erection of the classrooms, administration block, teachers’ housing, and ablution facilities.

The project is managed by MRDC, with Civil Pacific Construction Limited (CIVPAC) handling plant hire.

The new facilities are anticipated to be completed in 2026, with a significantly improved school environment for the Kikori district.
