Senior Tax Officer
MRDC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Officer to oversee tax compliance, reporting and strategic tax planning. In this role, you will ensure adherence to tax regulations, optimize tax efficiency, and provide expert guidance on tax—related matters. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the monthly preparation and timely lodgement of applicable taxes, including GST, SWT, Company Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, and Stamp Duty, ensuring compliance with IRC regulations.
- Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly estimates for resource entities’ advance tax payments and lodge them with the IRC.
- Review tax reconciliations and tax effect calculations.
- Monitor and manage the timely delivery of tax payments, returns, remittances, and submissions to the IRC.
- Prepare, lodge, and obtain tax clearances for companies requiring tax clearance certificates.
- Communicate directly with external associates, such as tax agents, the IRC, and other agencies.
- Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with the latest requirements.
- Oversee and review GST tax account summaries, including GST credit transfers for all entities.
- Develop tax strategies to minimize liabilities while maximizing profitability within legal boundaries.
- Advise on the tax implications of business decisions, such as acquisitions, restructuring, or international operations.
- Ensure tax-related financial reporting is accurate and compliant with both local accounting standards and international financial reporting standards.
- Prepare tax provision calculations and reports to support financial statements.
- Review contracts, agreements, and transactions to assess tax implications and mitigate exposure to risk.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is essential.
- Holding a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent is highly valued.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in tax accounting or a similar role is desirable.
- Proficiency in tax compliance and planning, strong analytical abilities, and effective communication skills are crucial.
- Knowledge of Mining & Petroleum industry, Oil & Gas Act, Mining Act, Central Bank Regulations, Banking and Accounting Skills.
- Sound knowledge of PNG tax Laws.
- Previous mining and petroleum industry or in a Chartered accounting firm work experience will be a bonus.
- Must have a deep understanding of local tax laws, including the Papua New Guinea Income Tax Act, Goods and Services Tax Act, and other relevant legislation.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment
- Experience in leading a team is an advantage
