MRDC Marks 50 Years of Legacy, Growth, and Landowner Empowerment

The Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) today proudly launched its 50th anniversary celebrations, marking half a century of transformative growth, enduring partnerships, and unwavering commitment to landowner empowerment.

Founded in 1975, MRDC has grown from humble beginnings into Papua New Guinea’s premier landowner investment company, managing a diverse portfolio of resource-based assets and delivering long-term value to its trustee partners.

MRDC Managing Director Mr. Augustine Mano reflected on the company’s journey and the people who have shaped it.

“This golden jubilee is not just a celebration of MRDC’s achievements—it is a tribute to the trustees who have walked this journey with us,” Mr. Mano said. “Their resilience, vision, and trust have been our success. Together, we have built more than a company—we have built a legacy.”

MRDC has evolved into a dynamic, wholly nationally owned enterprise, managing 22 subsidiary companies—15 of which serve as corporate trustees for landowners and provincial governments. These entities hold equity interests in major resource projects across the country, contributing to a portfolio valued at K12 billion as of 2024.

To commemorate this milestone, MRDC is unveiling a suite of public facing initiatives that will chronicle its evolution, celebrate its people, and highlight its impact. These include:

  • A Staff Profile Series spotlighting the long serving staff behind MRDC’s success
  • A 10-part Podcast exploring key moments in the company’s history
  • A 7-part Docuseries capturing the voices of trustees and communities
  • A Digital Supplement showcasing MRDC’s legacy and future vision
  • A Refreshed Website offering greater access to MRDC’s work and milestones

Beyond its investment footprint in banking, aviation, hospitality, health, power, and property, MRDC continues to drive inclusive development through targeted social programs in project areas—supporting education, healthcare, transport, and agriculture.

“Our story is one of partnership and purpose,” Mr. Mano added. “As we look to the future, we remain committed to creating wealth, building capacity, and delivering lasting benefits for our landowners and the nation.”

The 50th anniversary campaign will run through 2026, culminating in a national celebration that brings together trustees, partners, and communities to honour the past and embrace the future.
